Quiz 4
1) Hallmark five: We Embrace The Gift of Diversity. Strayer's textbook, Ways of the world does reflect this. In his book he doesn't just teach from his point of view, he gives multiple sides and views of the subjects. One example of this is at the end of chapter 21 when he is summarizing communism and whether we should judge it or not. He goes on to explain both sides of the subject whiteout showing bias towards a certain side. His textbook does exactly what is stated in hallmark five, it helped expand my knowledge and understanding of the diverse world and community we live in.
2) I believe that this course did meet the outcomes described in the syllabus. One assignment that stands out to me related to outcome #5 (weigh and interpret evidence), was the assignment we did in class where we were given different pieces of evidence and were asked to analyze it on whether it was considered strong or weak. One example was the Venus statue and how in the book it was described as something that represented fertility. It was established that this evidence was weak due to the fact that we did not know for sure that these statues did represent fertility. Another example I can think of is the debates we had in class with each other testing our knowledge on the reading to make for a strong argument. Lastly, our research assignment and oral presentation is directly related to outcome #6.
4) I do believe we are moving into a next era. With all the latest advancements in technology, that alone is great example that things are definitely changing. Environmental sustainability is a huge one, the fact that it is becoming something we have become more aware of and technology is focusing on ways to to not continue to harm our environment. Suddenly theres a big push for solar energy and electric cars. Nations coming together to focus on more global issues such as the Paris climate accord, where the focus is on the impact we have on this world and how to make it better.
